Thermal Waters at Sanillés
Thermal water is known to have been used here since Roman times and may
account for the origin of the name "Sanillés" which surely derives from the same
root as "sano" meaning healthy, and Lles which is the parish in which the property
is located.
In May 2000, after an exhaustive geological study, a new bore hole was drilled
to a depth of 139 metres (458 feet) through solid granite. The bore may yield some
15,000 litres per hour of thermal water at 34ºc (93ºF). We now have legal protection
over a wide area preventing others from drilling bore holes or using substances
which might contaminate the water from our bore.
The thermal waters surface as four related springs with slight variations in
temperature and composition of water: Païdor (30ºC), Fon del Riu (28ºC), de la Muntanya
(24ºC) all with alkaline and silica rich waters and de Ferro which is rich in iron.
The springs are small, yielding a combined total of about 500 litres per hour.
The classification as "minero-medicinal" water - which was first established
in 1877 and re-confirmed in 1928 - apply to the new borehole as it is within
50 metres of the original springs. The now vastly increased quantity of thermal water
means that Sanillés can now be classified as an official "Balneario" or Thermal
Spa with a whole range of water related health care treatments.
The high level of silica in the Sanillés thermal water gives especially
beneficial effects for improving hair condition and helping with skin complaints.
As drinking water the light mineral content assists digestion and renal function.

Sports in the Cerdanya Valley, Lerida, Spain
Skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and sledging with huskies are a
prominent feature of the region in winter. Within half an hour's drive of Sanillés
there are the linked downhill ski resorts of Masella and La Molina. They are well
equipped with modern lifts and snow cannons to ensure good skiing from early December
through to Easter. A fraction further away there is a whole variety of resorts in the
French end of the Cerdanya Valley and to the north is Andorra with some of the most
modern and promoted resorts in the Pyrenees. Closer to home there are two well
maintained cross country ski resorts above Sanillés linked to the village of Lles
and Aranzer.
At La Seu D'Urgell at the west end of the Cerdanya valley there is a
CANOE PARK built for the Olympic Games of 1992. It is complete with a controlled
white water descent and moving band lift to regain access to the quiet waters above.
Groups and teams come from all over Europe to train there. It was also host for
the Slalom World Cup July 2003.
There are two sporting aerodromes within easy distance, and it is simple to
arrange excursions in hot air balloons.
Mountain walking, trekking, horse riding, climbing and caving or pot-holing
are all pursuits that can be enjoyed in this popular tourist area. At Sanillés we have
two horses for riding and horse drawn carriages. The park has delightful paths for
riding, walking or jogging. The existing open air swimming pool is small but much
enjoyed by children and adults alike because of the warm and chlorine free thermal
water.
